Amusing footage shows an aggressive bird dive-bombing a stray cat after it wandered near its tree.

In the video, the bird is seen striking the cat on its back while it slowly retreated away.

Onlooker Junjun Onit said that the bird must be territorial so it felt alarmed that the cat invaded its space.

He said: "The bird is smart. It is willing to protect its territory with all its might. This is the first time I have seen this kind of bird."

The video was recorded in Junjun's neighbourhood in Pasay City, the Philippines on May 29.

The bird in the video is a Pied Fantail, locally known as Maria Capra, usually found in the cities.

They are extremely territorial and will attack animals, mostly cats and dogs but sometimes people, especially if it has a nest nearby.
