Seoul has confirmed that the South Korean military and the U.S. Forces Korea did transport missiles and other items in the early hours of Friday to the U.S. base in Seongju County - home to the THAAD missile defense system - to replace worn out equipment there.
Seoul's defense ministry, however, denied speculations that it was a covert move to install more launchers.
The items brought in include THAAD guided missiles, power generators, electronic data collection equipment, and air conditioning and heating equipment for troops.
South Korea did notify China, which has long opposed the presence of the anti-missile system here - in advance.
The USFK said the operation was a regular resupply to support the allies' defense posture.
