Chris Evans Says Captain America Role
Was the 'Best Decision' He's Ever Made Evans has portrayed Steve Rogers
and his alter-ego, Captain America,
in 11 Marvel movies to date. Evans said he initially turned down the opportunity to
test for the part because he had been suffering from
"panic attacks" while working on 'Puncture' in 2010. He believed his anxiety would
prevent him from doing a good job. Chris Evans, on
'Awards Chatter' podcast Evans turned down a testing opportunity several times
before Marvel came back to him, this time offering him
the part outright with no need to screen test. He then consulted with fellow Marvel star
Robert Downey Jr. who urged him not to
make a major decision based on fear. Evans finally decided to say yes,
and a decade later, he's confident
