A family were shocked when they found a snake hiding under a pile of shoe boxes.

The black and yellow mangrove snake slithered into his house in Krabi, southern Thailand on May 19.

It was later found hiding among shoe boxes so the owner contacted the rescue team to come and catch it.

Animal rescuers arrived and tried to lure the 5ft long mangrove snake out of the shoe boxes.

One of the rescuers said that the mangrove snake is ferocious so locals should not try to catch it themselves.

He said: "Luckily, the house owner was not attacked by the snake because this one was fierce. Even though it's poisonous, it's not deadly, but the bite is painful.

The rescuer added that mangrove snakes are rarely seen out of the wild and an it people's houses so it may have been trying to hide from the hot summer temperatures.
