President Ram Nath Kovind promulgated an ordinance to amend the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Sunday. The ordinance now provides stringent punishment for those found guilty of raping children. In case a person is convicted of raping a girl below the age of 12 years, then he will be served death penalty.
The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday approved the new ordinance to allow courts to give death penalty to those found guilty of raping girls under 12 years.
