Uber Lays Off 3,700 People Due To Less Demand

Reuters reports that Uber is slashing 3,700 jobs to save money amid the coronavirus. The company announced the layoffs on Wednesday, which accounts for about 14% of their total global workforce.
In a regulatory filing, Uber explained that the layoffs is due to having less customers and the company's recent hiring freeze.
They explained, "The company is reducing its customer support and recruiting teams."
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has also agreed to give up his $1 million base salary until the end of 2020.
As of December, Uber had 26,900 global employees, with 10,700 in the US. and 16,200 in other countries.
