Hershey’s sales for breath mints and chewing gum fell during coronavirus lockdowns. Hershey’s CEP Michele Gross Buck said the two items are “more functional than emotional.” According to Business Insider, they faced “declines of 40 percent to 50 percent over the past several weeks.” While those items may have suffered, other items like syrup, baking chips and cocoa grew 30 percent in March. Overall, the company’s underlying sales rose 0.5 percent last quarter.
