트럼프, 코로나19 핑계로 “미국으로의 이민 잠정 중단
U.S. President Trump says he will sign an executive order to temporarily suspend all immigration to the U.S. because of the coronavirus.
On Twitter, President Trump called the virus "the attack from the invisible enemy," adding protecting American jobs was behind his move to ban immigration.
No details were given as to what immigration programs could be affected by the order, and the White House did not immediately elaborate on Mr. Trump's announcement.
Even before the tweet, immigration advocates had expressed concern that the global pandemic could be used by those supporting tougher immigration policies.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. has over 787-thousand confirmed cases of COVID-19 and more than 42-thousand deaths.
