Massachusetts hospital executives went to great lengths to obtain personal protective equipment. A letter published in the New England Journal of Medicine described the experience of these health care workers. According to Business Insider, they sent a $1 million wire transfer, had a secret warehouse meeting and dealt with the FBI. The FBI agents interrogated those involved to see if the equipment was going to be resold. But after assuring them it was going to hospitals, they were allowed to load the trucks with PPE.
