A press conference was held at Press Club of India today, September 16, to protest against BJP’s alleged discrimination against marginalised sections of society. It was addressed by a panel which included Prashant Bhushan, senior advocate and human rights advocate lawyer; Pyare Lal Jatav and Ravindra Bhatti, members of Bhim Army’s Central Working Committee; Chaudhary Harsh Kumar, former Haryana minister and National General Secretary, Jannayak Janata Party; Aishe Ghosh, JNUSU President, and Afreen Fatima, elected Councillor JNUSU and former president of Women's College AMUSU.
The panellists protested against what they termed as BJP’s ‘fascist’ and anti-Dalit policies, which, they contended, was responsible for incidents like demolition of Guru Ravidas temple in Delhi and vandalism of a statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar in UP. They alleged that law-enforcement agencies like the CBI and state police forces were acting at the behest of the BJP government in UP and at the Center, refusing to lodge FIRs against miscreants and instead implicating innocent Dalits on trumped up charges.
