COVID-19 has taken a significant toll on front-line healthcare workers.
According to the CDC, as of April 10, more than 9,000 first responders had been infected by the virus.
The agency noted that its numbers likely underestimate the actual total of cases due to variances in state reporting.
In states with more complete reporting, more than 10% of confirmed cases involved healthcare workers.
UPI reports the CDC found that 90% of affected health workers did not require hospitalization.
Of those who did, 5% required treatment in intensive care units, and 27 died as a result of their illness.
