Excerpt of Apocalypsis Iesu XXI (Rev. 21:8)
This is just a quick draft depicting a difficult passage in the Book of Revelation, that of Rev. 21:8. John of Patmos uses a very distinct, apodictic language to characterize those that have chosen to deviate from John's perceived truths at that time. It is not a language that I would use, but it is written, and it is canon. Musically I could have hardly expected the arrival of Mahler's "Purgatorio" (strings) to underline one of the darkest passages in the oratorio. But I have learnt to welcome, and respect, those that come to sit around while I am writing.
I am working on the tempo of this passage, but the French Horns, the Organ, and the final Strings will possibly remain. Choir or Soloist, that is the question. The harmonies (that abyssal C to Cb run) I still need to digest. Right now they have been soften, with the singers in mind. But I might just come back to the raw semitonal clashes of the first draft.
