Just days after soaring half a million, the number of coronavirus cases worldwide has crossed the 920-thousand mark,... with over 46-thousand deaths.
The U.S. has the largest number of confirmed patients at over 209-thousand.
On top of this, the U.S. Navy has confirmed 1,000 crewmembers of the USS Theodore Roosevelt's crew have been removed from the aircraft carrier, docked in Guam, to coronavirus outbreak.
Choi Jeong-yoon reports.
As of Thursday, the U.S. has more confirmed cases than any other country.
Detecting some 20-thousand cases a day, the total number of cases has surpassed the 200-thousand mark.
The U.S. aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt is stranded in Guam, fighting a coronavirus outbreak.
The virus has infected nearly 100 servicemen and women on the carrier as of Wednesday local time.
The captain called on the U.S. Navy take immediate action to isolate the crew off the ship.
Some of the sailors will be quarantined in hotels in Guam.
The outbreak on the ship is escalating rapidly and the Navy expects the number to rise.
Approximately 1,000 of the carrier's more than 4,000 crew members have been tested for the virus.
In Europe, France is having a hard time testing patients with symptoms...due to a lack of test kits.
Tests are done selectively on medical staff and those in critical condition.
The French government says there is a limit of 12-thousand tests a day.
French health authorities reported Wednesday that the total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to almost 57-thousand.
Italy saw fewer coronavirus deaths on Wednesday but the number of new cases continues to grow.
The death toll in Italy climbed by 727 to more than 13-thousand on Wednesday, a significantly smaller increase than that seen on Tuesday and the lowest daily tally since March 26th.
However, the number of new cases rose more sharply than a day earlier, growing by 4,782 bringing total infections to some 1-hundred and ten thousand cases.
Given the severity of the situation, Italy has extended its stringent containment measures for another two weeks.
