A pensioner was shocked after finding a huge python strangling his pet cat.

Boonrak Chaibuppha, 65, was in his house watching the news when he heard the moggy squealing for help last Saturday (March 28) afternoon.

He went into the kitchen of his home in Bueng Kan, northeastern Thailand, and saw the 13ft long reticulated python.

The frantic pensioner pull the snake tail to make it stop strangling his cat. The snake let go of the pet but it had already died.

The rescue team arrived at the house and found the 13ft python coiling in the corner inside the house.

They used the snake catching rod to hook its head and pull it outside the house before moving it to the crate.

The pensioner said he was concerned after hearing his cat yelping much louder than usual.

He said: "The cat's cries disturbed the sound of the news on TV and it was strange so I went to look at it. It was terrible seeing my cat being killed.''

The rescuers carried the python with them back to their office and will hand it over to the national park officer to release it back to the wild.
