Dr. Sahira Long: Women often want to know,
00:09
“How do I know if my baby’s getting enough milk?”
00:12
and they often supplement because they don’t
00:14
think they’re getting enough.
00:15
That’s another place where knowing what to expect helps you to
00:20
be okay with what you’re doing, and I actually show women on the
00:24
growth chart where their child is because I think to see that,
00:27
you know, this baby is jumping from here to here and it’s
00:30
because of something that I’m doing is empowering.
00:33
I also go through, you know, how many wet diapers you should
00:36
expect.
00:37
Initially, before the milk comes in, the babies typically have
00:41
one wet diaper for each day of age until about two to three days
00:46
when the milk comes in, and at that point babies should have,
00:50
you know, no less than six to eight wet diapers and two to three
00:53
poopy diapers.
00:56
Some babies, mine included, will have many more.
01:00
But to know that you’re doing at least the bare minimum, two to
01:04
three poopy diapers and six to eight wet diapers.
01:07
Babies can’t put out if they’re not getting it in, so if your
01:12
baby is producing enough then you’re producing enough, so even
01:16
if you can’t see it, you see the outcome.
01:18
You see your baby gaining weight.
01:20
You see your baby happy and thriving.
