Uber and Lyft Cause More Pollution
Than Trips They Displace, Study Says The new report comes from
the Union of Concerned Scientists. On average, the analysis says they are
linked to 69 percent more climate pollution. In urban areas, biking and public transportation are
being replaced more and more by Lyft and Uber. This puts more cars on the roads,
which equals more carbon emissions. The group says that Uber and Lyft should encourage
users to utilize the car pool option more often. Another solution is for the ride-sharing
companies to invest more in electric cars. Lyft and Uber have made attempts, such
as offering bike and scooter services. Uber is also looking into giving cash incentives
to drivers with electric cars. In 2018, Lyft revealed future plans
to make its transportation carbon neutral.
