and had over 2,700 participants. Of the 32 percent who claim
debt, over a quarter of them
owe $10,000 in medical bills. 54 percent of those in debt say they

Dan Macklin, via CNBC On average, the Bureau of Labor Statistics says
Americans spend $5,000 per year on out-of-pocket costs. Back in 1984, they used up
half of that amount. The bureau's Consumer Price Index also reveals that
medical care costs jumped 4.6 percent from 2018 to 2019. This was the biggest yearly
increase in over a decade.
