CJTO calls on Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland

2020-01-29 10

Climate Justice TO is deeply concerned about the RCMP's ongoing militaristic invasion of unceded Wet'suwet'en land. We call on our politicians to do better, and to do so immediately. Our demands are simple: Dismantle the exclusion zone. Schedule nation-to-nation talks. Stop ignoring the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

If you are able, call Chrystia and/or your own MP to reiterate these demands. Considering the on-going harms due to Canadian provincial and federal government and RCMP responses to this crisis, we expect immediate action from our elected representatives.

We act in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en land defenders resisting the construction of several proposed hydraulically fractured gas and bitumen pipelines across their unsurrendered territories. We act recognizing that the BC Supreme Court's injunction order disregarded Wet'suwet'en law, and set the stage for the RCMP to set up an exclusion zone blocking media, food and supplies, and Wet’suwet’en peoples and their guests from reaching the territory to facilitate continued development of Coastal Gas Link’s pipeline. We remind you that the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) recentlycalledupon Canada to remove RCMP from Wet'suwet'en territory and immediately halt the construction of the Coastal Gas Link pipeline, considering continued infringements of Wet’suwet’en peoples rights.
