Senior lawyer Swati Baruah challenged the Transgender (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 in Supreme Court on grounds that it violates the right(s) to life, privacy and equality of transpersons. While speaking on the matter to ANI, Swati said, “We have challenged the Transgender (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 in Supreme Court. The main reason for it was that it violates the right(s) to life, privacy and equality of transpersons. If you look into this act, the accused will get only 6 months punishment for sexually assaulting a transperson. This law is wrong and that is why we challenged it in Supreme Court and we hope that SC will look after it.” For latest news follow www.deccanherald.com.
