Thai Airways staff disinfect a plane today (January 28) as they battle to stop the spread of coronavirus from China.

Officials from the flag carrier used a Boeing 777 to show how workers in hazmat suits spray disinfectant then fumigate the planes.

Airline staff then clean all of the surfaces and toilets with extra attention to places such as seat pockets and armrests that passengers touch frequently.

Thailand is the second-worst affected country with 14 people infected by the virus which originated in Wuhan, China at the end of December.

The state-owned airline's president Sumeth Damrongchaitham said all planes arriving from China and other risk area were sprayed with disinfectant for 15 minutes after the last crewmember leaves. Then the planes were fumigated for 30 minutes before cleaners set to work.

He said cabin crew now wear face masks and gloves. They are also instructed to observe passengers and report anyone with suspicious symptoms so they can be given face masks.

More than 100 people have been killed and at least 4630 infected by the coronavirus, with some suggestions that it emerged from a market for live animals.
