Netflix Acquires International
Rights to Studio Ghibli Films Netflix recently announced their exclusive
acquisition of 21 films from Studio Ghibli,
a beloved Japanese animation house. This includes iconic films such as
‘Spirited Away,’ ‘Princess Mononoke,’
’Kiki’s Delivery Service’ and ‘Castle in the Sky.’ The movies will be released in waves,
beginning in February, in all regions outside
of the United States, Canada and Japan. HBO Max previously secured the U.S.
streaming rights to Studio Ghibli in October
2019, and will be available in spring 2020. Netflix is set to subtitle the movies in 28 languages and
provide new dubs for the movies in up to 20 languages. According to Toshio Suzuki, a producer at Studio
Ghibli, the streaming decision was made to allow
audiences to "discover the world of Studio Ghibli.” Toshio Suzuki,
