China’s National Bureau of Statistics has announced that national GDP grew by 6.1 per cent in 2019, the slowest rate since 1990. The government also said on January 17, 2020, that retail sales growth dropped to 8 per cent as industrial production growth fell to 5.7 per cent. The figure for economic growth rate remained within the target range of 6.0-6.5 per cent set by Beijing at the start of 2019.
