After nationwide protests against the Citizenship Law and National Register of Citizen, senior leaders of the ruling party signalled a climbdown as far as an all india NRC was concerned. This softening of stand also came after BJP allies like the JDU and LJP said they were not in favour of the NRC. These parties had however backed the BJP on the Citizenship Act.
