In Sylacauga, Alabama, a town not too far from the state's largest city, Vertis Communications has announced it will close a plant there.

The cuts will cost 260 plant workers their jobs who produce printed marketing materials such as direct mail advertisements. The workers also operate printing presses and digital imaging equipment, among other tasks.

The Baltimore-based company plans to move work from the Sylacauga plant to one of their 100 plants nationwide. No other Vertis plant is operated in Alabama, with the closest in Atlanta.

The company said it plans to offer "extended financial assistance" to eliminated employees.
