Historic Hong Kong cafe ready to say goodbye as Kowloon squatter village faces redevelopment

Ngau Chi Wan, a compact cluster of small shops, squatter huts and narrow streets, has been earmarked by the government to make way for public housing and is expected to go within the next decade. Chou Chi-soon, the 73-year-old owner of Po Fook Cafe that opened its doors half a century ago in the village, was upset to say goodbye but would count it as a “happy retirement”.
