Head and Neck Injuries Due to
Cellphone Use Are Rising, Says Study.
Conducted by researchers at Rutgers
New Jersey Medical School, the first-of-
its-kind study was published in ' JAMA
Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery.'.
Over a 20 year period, the study states
that 2,501 people were treated at the
hospital for head and neck injuries due to
accidents that occurred during cellphone use.
On a national scale, the
number equates to 76,000
people likely treated for such injuries.
Since 2007, the number of
injuries have increased sharply.
You walk in the city and you see everyone just looking at their phones ... I don’t think people are aware of how fragile we are as humans ... Be aware that you can hurt yourself, Dr. Boris Paskhover, Lead Study Author, via NBC News.
While most of the cases required minimal
to no treatment, one third of the cases
involved the head, including injuries to
the brain sustained from a fall.
... don’t be distracted — period. Be self-aware. Answer a text message, fine, but you shouldn’t be walking around reading articles on your phone, Dr. Boris Paskhover, Lead Study Author, via NBC News
