State-owned MMTC placed an order for import of 11,000 MT of onions from Turkey. Onions will begin arriving from late December or early January. 11000 MT is in addition to the 6,090 MT of onions arriving from Egypt in mid-December. Onions shortage flared up on account of severe crop damage due to heavy rains.
