BNP protests rally Pond
BNP leaders clashed with police at a protest rally organized by Khaleda Zia's medical school and demanded release in Noakhali. The clash took place in front of the press club on Saturday and at various places in the city. At least five BNP activists were injured in the attack. As a result, the BNP's protest rally organized in front of the Noakhali Press Club became Pond.
Eyewitnesses said the BNP activists gathered in front of the Noakhali Press Club in the morning. At around 4 pm, a procession was actually stopped by the police. Within moments, clashes between police and BNP activists broke out. Later, the police charged the baton. After some time the clashes broke out from the BNP procession at various places of the city, not just at the Noakhali Press Club. At one point, the pre-determined protest rally became Pond.
Later in the afternoon, Vice Chairman of the central BNP said. A news seminar was organized at the bus building in Maizdadi, Shahjahan. At that time, the leaders said that the police stopped their procession without provocation and charged the staff members with sticks. As a result, 8 to 20 of their leaders were injured.
Central BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman, district BNP president Golam Haider, general secretary advocate Abdur Rahman, district Juba Dal president Manjurul Azim Suman and general secretary Nurul Amin Khan were present at the press conference.
Sub-inspector Abdul Baten of the Sudharam police station said the BNP had no permission to rally. Yet they were rallying. But suddenly from the procession, BNP activists threw bricks at the police and then tried to disperse them.
