This is the moment a zoo treated its elephants to a two-tonne fruit buffet after the birth of a new baby.

The youngster, named Kaimook, was born on Tuesday (November 12) morning in Chonburi, eastern Thailand.

Within a day it had worked up an appetite and was given watermelons, pineapples, carrots and cucumbers.

The food was laid out on tables for several older elephants at the zoo to also eat yesterday (November 13) morning.

Zoo owner Pathumma Kokiathimanon said the ceremony was to celebrate the elephant's healthy birth.

She said: "This was to welcome our newborn elephant, Kaimook, who arrived healthy in the morning. We hope that he will be blessed and live a long life.''
