It has been dubbed the 'Green New Deal for Public Housing Act.'.
In improving federally-owned homes, the bill contains ways for them to enhance energy efficiency. .
This includes getting renewable energy from household appliances that typically use gas and oil.
The legislation also calls for the replacement of lead pipes that have led to widespread health issues.
