Two cases of the fatal pneumonic plague have been confirmed in China,... raising concerns over the possible spread of the illness to South Korea.
However, health officials in South Korea say the risk of the highly contagious disease spreading here is very low,.. adding they have enough vaccines in stock, even if an outbreak were to occur.
The plague, which used to be called 'The Black Death' and killed tens of millions of people in Europe in the 13th and 14th centuries, causes symptoms such as fever, headache and vomiting.
If left untreated, it carries a mortality rate of nearly 100-percent.
