After scrapping a highly-anticipated summit of world leaders last week as the country struggles with anti-government protests, Chile is now reportedly discussing with the U.S. to co-host the APEC summit in the United States in January.
Reuters reports that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has been telling other diplomats that the United States was thinking of hosting the summit.
Chile cancelled the APEC summit that was originally scheduled for November 16 and 17 because of the violent protests.
If it can't be re-arranged, Malaysia is set to host the next APEC summit, scheduled for the end of 2020.
