Bill Gates Opposes
Elizabeth Warren’s
Wealth Tax Plan.
The Microsoft founder shared
his views Wednesday at
The New York Times
DealBook Conference.
I’ve paid over $10 billion in taxes. I’ve paid more than anyone in taxes. If I had to pay $20 billion, it’s fine, but when you say I should pay $100 billion, then I’m starting to do a little math about what I have left over. , Bill Gates, via NYT Dealbook Conference.
Gates added that he didn’t think
Warren would “even be willing to
sit down with somebody who has
large amounts of money.” .
The Democratic presidential candidate
responded to Gates on Twitter later that day.
I'm always happy to meet with people, even if we have different views. @BillGates, if we get the chance, I'd love to explain exactly how much you'd pay under my wealth tax. (I promise it's not
$100 billion.) , Elizabeth Warren, via Twitter.
Warren’s plan calls for a 2% wealth tax on
those with more than $50 million and a 3%
tax on every dollar of net worth above $1 billion.
The wealth tax would help fund
programs such as “Medicare for All.”
