Various events were held in Seoul throughout this week marking the Global Green Growth Week.
And today our Kim Jae-hee brings us a report on the Renewable Energy Conference that brought together numerous countries across the globe to shed light on the pending issue.
The 8th International Renewable Energy Conference ran from Wednesday to Friday at COEX in Seoul to promote affordable, sustainable and eco-friendly energy development.
"More than three thousand people from over a hundred countries came to participate this year. This was also the first time the conference was co-organized by South Korea's central government as well as local governments."
The event's closing speech laid out the next steps for renewable energy.
"Renewable energy community is doing incredible work. But we're not doing enough. The time has come for a new oil to come, and that new oil is renewables. We have to provide 24/7 energy, and we have to provide energy with affordability."
Various issues such as policy, innovative business models, and socio-economic aspects of renewable energy were on the table throughout the discussion session.
And participants stressed how the shift to renewable energy could benefit the global economy, but needs to be evenly distributed between countries.
"Renewable energy is rapidly improving in terms of not only in technology, but in terms of cost. Renewable energy is now much cheaper than other options. And the entire way we organize our economies needs to adapt to renewable energy sources."
"The countries that are leading will be the ones benefiting from low cost renewable electricity. The challenges of these countries that remain locked in old energy system, locked into inefficient dirty, polluting, coal fire power, gas power, etc, and they really need to get a move on in order to keep up with this global trend of change."
Experts said the transition to clean and sustainable energy is no longer a choice, but a necessity.
