'Mama bear to the rescue!' Rain forces cubs to climb tree in Canadian creek

This was the moment a mother bear in Manitoba scaled a tree to retrieve her cubs after heavy rain produced a river forcing them to take refuge yesterday (October 13).

Footage shows three cubs at the top of the tree as the mother climbs to the top.

The filmer explained: "The backstory behind this... so my aunt and uncle have this creek that flows through their front yard, and with all the rain Manitoba has had the last two months has caused the creek to become a raging river.

"Bears usually cross the creek to come to the other side but now they can’t with the high flowing river."

They later added: "This morning my aunt thought she heard her cows mooing, so when she let out her dog she noticed three baby cubs in the tree and the mama bear trying to coax them down.

"After six hours two baby cubs finally had the courage to make their way down after the mama bear showed them how easy it was for them to get down.

"One baby cub was still in the tree when I went to bed last night and I’m happy to say at some point in the middle of the night it made its way down and the happy bear family is on its way!"
