Two peachicks fell into a 50-foot-deep well in south India, prompting a rescue by local firemen.

The incident took place in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu state on September 26, after a peahen built its nest near the well, and the hatchings unknowingly fell in.

Learning this the mother raised alarm and the nearby villagers came and saw two peachicks inside the well. As it was a rainy day the villagers were worried about the well filling and drowning the chicks.

Firemen were called and one was lowered in to rescue the tiny birds, retrieving them safely.

The firemen then waited for an hour for the mother to return, but she had fled, so they took the peachicks with them to be handed over to Forest Department officials.
