This clumsy dog had to be rescued after following a coy female - only to fall into a deep well.

The three-year-old mongrel dog named Heng Heng had been missing from his home for two day before locals heard him yelping from the abandoned pit in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on Monday (September 30).

The well is 17ft-deep which made it impossible for the locals to help him out so they called for help.

Firefighter came with a ladder to climb down and grab the dog but he was frightened and growled at the rescuer - before retreating into a pipe.

The officer tried to use an anaesthetic to sedate the dog but failed after the dog bit him and broke the syringe.

Eventually, the dog was coaxed out by his owner who arrived at the well to help.

The owner, Somkid Somboon, said that her dog had recently been following a stray dog around the streets trying to mate with her.

She said: "The last time I saw him was two days ago when he ran out to follow a female dog from the neighbourhood.

"He didn't come back so I think that he followed her here and was excited, then accidentally fell into the well."

The dog was checked over by the vet and found the pooch was fatigued from being trapped in the well for two days.
