Hong Kong tourism suffers worst downturn in more than a decade as anti-government protests continue

Tourism, one of Hong Kong’s four pillar industries, has suffered its worst downturn in more than a decade.  Tourist arrivals dropped 40 per cent in August 2019, as anti-government protests dragged on for more than three months sending a chill across the entire economy. In the tourism sector, the unrest has sent shock waves through a range of industries from catering to hotels as well as retail.
