Pro Beijing groups had called on people to go and clear out anti-government ‘Lennon walls’ across the city. These clearances became flash points as protest sympathisers came out to defend the walls which have become part of Hong Kong’s streetscape. The most bitter clash came in Amoy Plaza mall in Kowloon City where rival groups had scheduled gathering at almost exactly the same time. Fights broke out and the police were called to separate the two sides.
