Scientists Identify
Left-Handedness Genes
.
The study was conducted by
researchers from the University
of Oxford and published in ‘Brain.’.
It analyzed the DNA of nearly
400,000 people, with 38,332
of them being left-handed. .
Scientists were able to isolate
four genetic regions associated
with left-handedness.
Three of the regions are believed to influence
brain development, which leads to higher coordination
between the left and right hemispheres.
This implies that left-handed
people may also be more
adept at verbal tasks.
Scientists believe that a more in-depth
study is needed to assess whether the
“higher coordination of the language areas”
is responsible for increased verbal ability. .
... it must be remembered that these differences were only seen as averages over very large numbers of people and not all left-handers will be similar, Akira Wiberg, University of Oxford, via CNN
