MANILA, Philippines – The Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, have been knocked out of the French Open in just the second round. Serena was beaten 6-2, 6-2 by 35th ranked Garbine Muguruza of Spain. The 17-time Grand Slam champion from the United States never got into her stride against the 20-year-old Spaniard. Muguruza, whose pace proved too fast for Williams, will next face Slovakia’s Anna Schmiedlova, who beat Serena’s older sister, Venus, earlier in the day. The 29th seed and former world number one has never won the claycourt Grand Slam. Meanwhile, Schmiedlova is aged 19 and is ranked 56 in the world. -- Mornings @ ANC, May 29, 2014.
