MANILA, Philippines - Prices of garlic are still between P250 to P280 per kilo, despite the government's efforts to introduce less expensive garlic in the markets. However, the Department of Agriculture said the rolling trucks carrying less expensive garlic at P180-P200 per kilo do not stay long in wet markets. There is a delivery schedule in several wet markets in Metro Manila this week: June 17 - Kamuning Market (8am-12nn) June 18 - Muñoz Public Market & Tandang Sora Market (7am-11am) June 19 - Muntinlupa Public Market (7am-10am) June 20 - Pasay Public Market & New Dagohoy Public Market (8am-1pm) June 21 - Mandaluyong Public Market (7am-10am) The National Garlic Action Team has recommended to the DA the importation of 46,000 metric tons of garlic after June 21, to temper rising prices. But the government has no final decision on that yet. Meanwhile, commercial rice prices have also gone up by as much as P3 per kilo in Mega Q-Mart. Since last week, there has been no more commercial rice selling below P40 per kilo. Even refined sugar retails for P52 per kilo as vendors claim suppliers have also jacked up prices. - With report from Alvin Elchico, ABS-CBN News
