MANILA - Anti-pork barrel groups have criticized President Aquino for avoiding Independence Day demonstrations by celebrating the event in Naga City. But while in Naga, Aquino was not able to escape the protests. During his speech there, he was heckled by youth activists who were able to slip past police and the Presidential Security Group. Em Mijares, a 19-year-old 4th year psychology student from the Ateneo de Naga University, was immediately arrested for heckling Aquino and charged for public disturbance. He said he is disappointed with his arrest considering he was only exercising his right to freedom of expression on Independence Day. "Basic right natin bilang mamamayan na makapagpahayag ng sentimiento, hindi lang ako kundi lahat ng mamamayan under-represented," he said. MORNINGS@ANC, June 13, 2014
