Manchester United returned to a tried and trusted trophy winner, as they have appointed Dutchman Louis Van Gaal as their new manager. Former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach Van Gaal, who will lead Netherlands at the World Cup next month, has agreed to a three-year contract. The 62-year-old Van Gaal won two La Liga titles while in charge of Barcelona, and also took Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga crown. Van Gaal will begin the rebuilding job at Old Trafford once he has finished national duties at the World Cup. Meanwhile, Ryan Giggs has retired from his remarkable 23-year, trophy-laden career in Manchester United to work as Van Gaal’s right-hand man. Giggs took charge of United’s final four Premier League games of the season following the sacking of David Moyes. Giggs made a record 963 appearances, winning 13 League titles, four FA Cups, and two Champions League trophies. -- Mornings @ ANC, May 20, 2014.
