This is the heart-warming moment a blind dog was rescued after failing into a drain in Thailand on August 30.

The stray mongrel was wandering along the roadside before suddenly plunging into the seven-metre-deep drain in Udon Thani, northeastern Thailand the night of August 29.

Resident Boonchu Srisang followed the animal's whining and found the old and feeble dog balancing on a piece of wood, and immediately called the rescue foundation for help.

Boonchu said: ''I heard the dog barking constantly when I came outside to open the shop. I looked around but I couldn't find where the noise came from.

''So, I left the shop and walked around until I found him under the dirty drainage hole, looking very exhausted.''

Rescue workers began gently petting and talking to the dog in order to gain the animal's trust before attempting to catch him and pull him up with a lasso, eventually climbing in to secure it.

Boonchu said that the drainage cover was broken and left opened for about two days, causing the blind dog to fall into the hole accidentally.

He added: ''I never saw this dog before. I guess he was trying to find the way home but unfortunately he fell.

''I would like the government authority to have a look and replace the cover with the new one, so such accidents would not happen to other animals and people.''
