Floridians and residents of the
Southeastern coast of the U.S.
should prepare for the worst.
Visit FloodSmart.gov to gauge flood risks
for your zip code and have a plan of exit.
Find out if you live in a "hurricane evacuation zone,"
and have a bag with essentials — such as clothes,
money, medications and documents ready to go.
Plan to have at least a week's worth
of food and water for your family and pets,
as well as enough gas in the tank.
Businesses should also prepare by boarding
up windows and having operations plans in place.
Most importantly, listen to orders
of mandatory evacuations.
If you decide to ride out the storm,
or wait until the last moment to leave,
it could be too late
