In mixed martial arts, Fabricio Werdum earned a shot at UFC gold after the heavyweight defeated Travis Browne via unanimous decision. Both fighters came into the fight looking for a knockout. Browne picked up the pace early with vicious attacks to the head, but Werdum also showed off his vastly improved striking game. The Brazilian was also able to score the first ever takedowns against Browne, where he showed off his superior grappling skills. Werdum dictated the pace throughout the five rounds in a dominant victory.
