LAS VEGAS -- A 22-year old Filipino-American is due for sentencing in Las Vegas for slashing the throat of his family's dog, a black labrador mix. Facing felony or misdemeanor charges, Jeremy Espiritu admitted in the arrest report that he likes to hurt dogs just for the thrill of it, even if he is not being attacked or provoked. Espiritu was quoted in the report saying, "I just wanted to stab the dog so I sat on the floor and cut its neck." Police found a 6-inch serrated knife in a puddle of blood near the kitchen. Espiritu may face up to 4 years of imprisonment on a class D felony for torturing or maiming an animal. From report by Bev Llorente, ABS-CBN North America Bureau
