Senate summons Napoles, DOJ probes tax case

MANILA - Alleged pork scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles has been officially summoned by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, which is investigating the P10 billion pork barrel scam. She is required to appear on Nov. 7, 2013, 10 a.m. at the Senate session hall. The subpoena was signed this morning, October 21, by Sen. Teofisto "TG" Guingona III, chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee, and approved by Senate President Franklin Drilon. Napoles will have to seek the permission of the Makati regional trial court before she can appear before the Senate. Napoles is facing serious illegal detention charges before the Makati RTC. She is currently detained at Fort Santo Domingo in Sta Rosa, Laguna. Meanwhile, the preliminary investigation into the tax evasion complaint against Napoles begins today. The Bureau of Internal Revenue earlier filed the complaint before the Justice Department, pegging Napoles' tax liability at more than P44 million and her husband at more than P16 million.
