Sulpicio Lines: Cause of ship collision still unclear

MANILA -- Sulpicio Lines President Jordan Go on Saturday said it would be premature to say which vessel caused the collision off the coast of Talisay City, Cebu Friday night. "As of now, unfortunately, we cannot give an official statement," Go said in an interview with ANC, noting that he has yet to get the complete statement of the captain of cargo ship Sulpicio Express 7 regarding the incident. The 2GO had said the cargo ship rammed into their passenger vessel M/V St. Thomas Aquinas, leaving a gaping hole on the vessel and causing it to take on water and sink. At least 28 people were killed in the accident. Go said Sulpicio Lines has been coordinating with 2GO in providing assistance to the victims. "What's important right now is to make sure that we assist in the recovery and rescue of passengers," he said. -- Dateline Philippines, ANC, August 17, 2013
